Anglo-Saxon Gold Hoard Acquisition
The National Heritage Memorial Fund awarded Leeds Museums and Galleries a £95,000 grant to help secure a spectacular Anglo-Saxon hoard of gold for the nation. The ‘West Yorkshire Hoard’ comprises six extremely rare pieces of gold jewellery dating from the seventh to 11th centuries. It provides an outstanding opportunity to significantly increase our understanding of the Anglo-Saxon era, particularly trade and craft. The most spectacular item is a stunning gold ring with a lozenge-shaped bezel set with a garnet gem which is in near-perfect condition.
