Acquisition of painting, oil on canvas, full title 'Wooded Landscape with Cattle by a Pool and Rustics Outside a Cottage'. By Thomas Gainsborough (1727 - 1788). Gainsborough exhibited this painting at The Royal Academy in 1782. The early evening light unifies the many incidents included in the composition: mothers and children around a cottage door and the honest work of a heavily-laden woodcutter are themes that often appear in Gainsborough's London period landscapes.
