Wilberforce Family Papers
Acquisition of William Wilberforce's papers that passed by descent from his son Robert. The other half of his papers - those passed by descent from his other son Samuel, had been acquired by the Bodleian Library, University of Oxford in 1965. The papers include diaries, religious journals, autobiography and correspondence of William Wilberforce (1759-1833), philanthropist and campaigner for the abolition of slavery, Member of Parliament, 1771-1833; together with correspondence of his son, Robert Isaac Wilberforce (1802-57), Archdeacon of West Riding (1821-56).
