West Dean Estate Storm Damage
Restoration of landscape and replanting following the great storm of October 1987. There has been a park and gardens at Wets Dean since the 16th century. The 20th century layout reflected the early and late 19th century designs, the latter by garden designers Gertrude Jekyll and Harold Peto. The Garden was renowned for its fine specimen trees and some of the most famous, including an enormous chestnut tree, were blown down, reducing the garden, park and St Roche's Arboretum to skeletons of their former selves.
