Vindolanda Writing Tablets

Acquisition of recently-exacavated group of 293 fragmentary wooden writing-tablets from the Roman part of Vindolanda/Chesterholm, found during the 1985 season of excavations. The tablets date to the late 1st and 2nd century AD. They comprise personal letters and military documents, some on ink-tablets, some on stylus (wax)-tablets.
