Towneley of Towneley Hall Papers

Acquisition of the family and estate records of the Towneley family of Towneley Hall (near Burnley), dating from the 12th to 19th centuries and relating mainly to east Lancashire, and comprising about 100 linear feet of records. Two-thirds of the material predates 1500, making this the largest collection of medieval material in Lancashire Record Office, Post medieval material includes estate accounts, deeds and correspondence. The collection is of major important in documenting the development of East Lancashire.
