Todd Bowden Tauchnitz Collection

Acquisition of the Todd Bowden Tauchnitz collection of books, c.7,000 items. From 1844 to 1955 the publishing business Tauchnitz published English literature in English for readers on the Continent, frequently before the same works appeared in Britain. The collection is therefore of importance for students of English literature, but in particular for documenting the impact which English literature had on the continent of Europe mainly in the nineteenth century, but also in the period leading up to the Second World War.
