Submarine No 1 (Holland 1) Application 1

Salvage of the first submarine of the Royal Navy, known as Holland I after her American inventor. She was launched in 1901 and was the first effective submersible in the world. After a dozen years of service the 64-foot long vessel was obselete. She foundered and sank near the Eddystone lighthouse while being towed to the breakers' yard in 1913. She was raised and conserved atthe Royal Navy Submarine Museum in Portsmouth.
