The Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome Trust secured Europe’s only remaining unaltered First World War Aerodrome – Stow Maries in Purleigh near Maldon, Essex. Of the 250 aerodromes built during the First World War, just ten still exist. Stow Maries is the only one to have remained almost untouched since the war ended in 1918.
Alongside the grant from National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF), additional support was also obtained from Essex County Council, Maldon District Council and English Heritage.
