Stevenson Engineering Firm Archive
Acquisition of the Stevenson Engineering Archive. The collection comprises the business archive of the firm of Robert Stevenson and Sons, Civil Engineers, from the late 18th century to the mid 20th century, both papers and printed items. The papers consist mainly of letter books, incoming correspondence, reports, memoranda, maps and plans. The printed books (619 items in 244 volumes) comprise many important works, mostly nineteenth-century British imprints. Many earlier items are inscribed by Stevenson owners, there are several presentation copies, and numerous works written by the Stevenson's themselves. The main interest of the archive lies in work relating to harbours and lighthouse construction.
