Statue of Aurora by Gibson

Acquisition of a marble figure of Aurora by John Gibson (1790-1866) which was commissioned by Henry Sandbach of Liverpool as a present for his wife. It was completed in 1942-3. John Gibson, son of a market gardener, was born near Conway in Wales. He trained in Liverpool but left for Italy in 1817 and spent the rest of his life there.
