St Mary Polstead, Silk Hanging

Conservation of silk hanging in St Mary's Polstead, Essex. The hanging is made of joined panels of red silk velvet, almost certainly from Italy, and decorate with applied bands and roundels of linen canvas embroidered with silk in tent stitch. Second half of 16th/early 17th century.
