Acquisition of oil sketch of Somerset House by John Constable, dtaing from 1819 when Constable first conceived the idea of working on a large painting depicting the opening of Westminster Bridge. This sketch shows the unfinished East side of New Somerset House with boats moored at its entrance arches. Oil on paper laid on canvas. H 203 x W 254mm.
