Rudchester Fort, Hadrian’s Wall
Acquisition of 28-acre site of unexcavated Roman Fort in order to protect it. The Roman Fort at Rudchester lies on the line of Hadrian's Wall in Northumberland, near the settlement of Heddon on the Wall. The site comprises the earthwork remains of part of the Roman Fort itself (Vindovala) together with a section of Vallum and a range of well preserved 18th and 19th century farm buildings. The recently opened Hadrian's Wall Path National Trail passes through the site and provides a good vantage point to appreciate the archaeological and historic remains.
