Roberson Archive

Acquisition of material from the archive of the firm of Charles Roberson and Co, one of the major artists' colourmen in Britain established in 1810. The Hamilton Kerr Institute had been given the main company archive in 1986. This additional material came onto the market in 1993. It includes correspondence and orders from artists such as Laura Knight and Holman Hunt, and the Paint Box Order Book which runs from 1836 to 1869 and details orders from artists including John Ruskin and Edward lear.
