Purchase of four torcheres by James and Ann Pascall

The proposal is to re-unite at Temple Newsam House, four torcherers from a set of eight, all part of a suite of early-rococo furniture made for the Picture Gallery by James & Ann Pascall in 1745-6. This suite left Temple Newsam House when the estate was sold in 1922. The process of repatriating the component objects began in 1939 and now only these 4 torcheres and 2 side tables remain to be rescued. The torcheres, last on the market in 1961 - reappeared at auction in Zurich in March 2007.
