Proof for a map of Wales by Saxton c1650

Acquisition of an unrecorded proof map of Wales, circa 1580 by Christopher Saxton. A product of Saxton's topographical survey of England and Wales (1573-1578). Shares many common features with his Wall map of England and Wales £1583), but with shire names in lower case rather than upper case. A mixture of engraved and manuscript forms. Sailing vessels, tree symbols, scale-bar, shire names and title appear in manuscript. Made up of two double page sheets (watermarked bunch of grapes as in 1579 atlas) and portions cut from two other sheets.
