Portraits of the Montacute Family

Acquisition of a collection of 30 portraits of the Phelips family, who built and owned Montacutue House, Somerset (c1600) until it was given to the National Trust in 1931. The portraits range from the 16th to the 19th centuries, the earliest of the builder of the house Sir Edward Phelips. The remaining portraits are of various members of the family and their wives, some of whom owned Montacute House.
