Acquisition by private treaty sale of full length portrait of Captain Wade by Thomas Gainsborough, which had been on loan to the Assembly Rooms, Bath.Captain Wade was the Master of Ceremonies in Bath from 1769-77. It was painted for the Assembly Rooms. Originally the background was a rural landscape but this was overpainted with a balustrade and steps.
