Portrait of Captain Cook by Hodges

Acquisition of portrait of Captain James Cook by William Hodges (1744-97). Hodges accompanied Cook on his second expedition, appointed by the Admiralty to record places visited on the voyage. During the three year voyage Hodges used up all his oil colours in creating a wonderful series of landscapes now in the National Maritime Museum. Hodges' portrait of Cool was discivered in Ireland in 1986. Oil on canvas, 762x635mm
