Patteson Collection

Acquisition of a collection of 41 paintings and a mahogany and hardstone inlaid cabinet of c 1765 from the collection of John Patteson (1775-1833), a Norwich merchant and brewer, and Mayor of Norwich. The collection features a number of Netherlandish works. Patteson was also the inheritor, by marriage, of the core of the collection of the Suffolk antiquary, Cox Macro (1683-1767). A significant part of that collection was a group of ten works by Peter Tillemans (1684-1734) of Antwerp. Other notable artists represented in the collection are Salomon Rombouts, Abraham Hondius and Jan Frans van Bloemen.
