Panshanger Archive

Acquisition of the Cowper family archive from Panshanger in Hertfordshire. The family were leading landowners in the county from the 17th to the 20th centuries and it is the records of their Hertfordshire properties that form the core of the archive. The principle interest of the collection, however, lies in the family papers. the largest and most impressive groups are the legal and political papers of the first Earl as Lord Chancellor, the Grand Tour and Italian papers of the 3rd Earl and the voluminous correspondence of the Grenfell family.
