Norwich River: Afternoon by John Crome

Acquisition of painting by John Crome (1768-1821) entitled 'Norwich River:Afternoon' c 1819 (oil on canvas; 71.1 x 100.3cm). John Crome was the leading g member of the Norwich School of Artists and its most influential artist. It is the influence of his style on the work of many of the other Norwich artists which identify the paintings as 'Norwich School' - the first regional school of paining in Britain. The painting shows a scene on the River Wensum, not far from where Crome lived, and is considered one of his most important works.
