Nelson Manuscripts

Acquisition of two volumes of correspondence and papers by or relating to Nelson. The first volume contains approximately 60 letters from Nelson to Earl St Vincent between 1796 and 1805. They relate to matters of naval tactics, strategy and matters of promotion. It includes the first letter written by Nelson with his left hand. The second volume contains material gathered for a biography of St Vincent and sir William Parker over the period 1790 to 1838. This includes letters from Nelson and St Vincent, also covering naval strategy and foreign affairs. There are some draft passages for the biography included in the volume. These volumes have been catalogued with the Parker collection as PAR/251 and PAR/252.
