Monk Wood Worcestershire

Acquisition of Monk Wood, just a few miles north of Worcester, which is one of the most important semi-natural ancient woodlands in Worcestershire. It is particularly well-known for its moth and butterfly populations (it is a county stronghold for rare Wood White butterfly), and it is a key site for dormice. Its particular value stems from a long history of coppice management, which maintained the open, sheltered conditions needed for many endangered woodland species to survive. Monkwood (including the adjacent Little Monkwood) covers 164 acres, which are managed by the Trust in association with Butterfly Conservation.
