Mary of Modena Bed and Chairs

Acquisition of the State Bed, 1680s, in the Queen's Bed Chamber at Kensington Palace, traditionally supposed to have belonged to King James II and his consort, Mary of Modena. It had been on loan to the Palace, together with an important set of walnut chairs, for many years, but the owner now wished to sell. The grantee was the V&A, but the bed and chairs were to remain on loan to Kensington Palace.
