Lloyd George papers

Acquisition of papers to supplement Lloyd George's family papers which the National Library of Wales acquired in 1969. The papers that were the subject of the application were mainly latters and notes for speeches. They were drawn together from several sources by Lloyd George's elder son, Richard, the present Earl's father. The bulk of the correspondence dates from the period 1890-1915, though the most important political letters date from 1906-15. Included are letters from, among others, Asquith, Bonar Law, Andrew Carnegie, Austern Chamberlain, Edward Grey and Kier Hardie. There is also correspondence dating from the 1920's-30s, including a series of letters on the Liberal Party and Lloyd George's correspondence with Ramsay MacDonald, 1930-35. Apart from correspondence, there are also notebooks and notes for speeches. These papers have been incorporated in the Library's main series of manuscripts, ref, NLW MSS 22514-37.
