Leighton Papers

Acquisition of an important part of the archive of Frederick Lord Leighton (1830-96) which appeared from an unknown source at auction in 1985. With NHMF's assistance, Leighton House was able to buy thirteen Lots, including some of the artist's autograph juvenilia and letters from Sir Richard Burton in Damascus and Trieste about exotic tiles he was procuring for Leighton's house in Kensington.
