Leighton Library, Dunblane

Repairs to the structure of the Leighton Library, founded by Bishop Leighton and built between 1685-1687 to house the books left to Dunblane Cathedral by the Bishop. It contains the oldest collection of books in Scotland, more than 1,000 of which belonged to Leighton, and were donated by him for the use of the local clergy. Around 2,600 volumes were added in the 18th and 19th centuries when it was a public subscription library. NHMF grant was for repairs to prevent water penetration and for eradication of woodworm and other infestation that was threatening the safety of the collection.
