Last Judgement Plaque by Weston

Acquisition at auction of a marble plaque depicting the Last Judgement which originally formed part of the Kelland family monument at Ashprington Church, near Totnes in Devon. In the 1960s the monument was dismantled and the vicar sold the plaque. The monument was carved by John Weston (fl 1696-1733) in 1711. Weston was one of the most remarkable provincial sculptors of the early 18th century and there are several other examples of his work in DEvon and Cornwall.
