Heigham Holmes, Norfolk
Acquisition of 186ha of typical broadland grazing marsh. It is a pasture covered low-lying island, criss-crossed with ditches, and surrounded by the River Thurne. It is designated as an SSI, RAMSAR and candidate SAC site. These designations emphasise its importance for wintering and breeding bird populations and the brackish communities in the dykes.
