Guesten Hall Roof

Re-erection of 14th century timber roof from the Priory associated with Worcester Cathedral. The Guesten Hall was begun in 1320. The Hall was demolished in 1862 having reached a point of dangerous decay, but its roof, its most outstanding feature, was preserved and incorporated into Holy Trinity Church, Worcester, which was consecrated in 1865. When Holy Trinity church was in turn demolished in 1969, the roof was dismantled and taken to Avoncroft Museum of Buildings, but it had become clear that it could only continue to deteriorate unless reconstituted into a weather-proof structure.
