Formakin Estate, Bishopton
Acquisition of Formakin Estate for development as a country park. This small estate of house, lodges and garden was designed by Sir Robert Lorimer (1864-1929) for John Holms, a Glasgow business man. When in 1913 the shell of the main house had been completed and a little work done on the interior, work ceased and virtually nothing beyond maintenance was carried out even after purchase by another businessman, A E Pickard. Even so, nowhere but at Formakin can so many facets of Lorimer's genius be seen at once - the architect of the country house and intimate ancillary buildings, the garden designer and sensitive adapter and restorer.
