Fábula by El Greco

Acquisition of oil painting on canvas by Domenikos Theotokopoulos, known as El Greco (1541-1614), the celebrated artist of Cretan origin active mainly in Toledo in Spain. The mysterious subject is probably allegorical but has never been fully elucidated. It shows a youth blowing on a burning ember, accompanied by a grinning figure and an ape.
