Elveden Hall Manuscripts

Acquisition of the archive collection from Elveden Hall comprising the Phillipps Collection of papers of 17-19th Century Suffolk antiquaries, including hundreds of medieval deeds, records of eighteen pre-Dissolution religious houses and the antiquaries' own notes. Amassed by Sir Thomas Phillipps between 1829 and 1859 and purchased by the 1st Earl of Iveagh in 1914. Also the Cornwallis Papers: Records of fifteen manors in Norfolk and Suffolk from the 13th century; domestic and estate accounts, 16th - 18th century; letter-book of the 1st Marquis Cornwallis as Governor General of India. Purchased by the 2nd Earl of Iveagh in 1931.
