Elizabethan Table Carpet

Acquisition of a late Elizabethan table carpet that had been on loan to the museum since 1976. Worked in gros and petit point in silk and wool, the carpet has nine medallions depicting scenes from the Old Testament which are divided by floral bands. Likely to be English professional work.
