Earl of Pembroke’s Inventory, 1561

Acquisition of an inventory drawn up for William Herbert, Earl of Pembroke (1501? -1570) who was Esquire to the Body to Henry VIII. The inventory, taken in 1561, describes in full detail all the furnishings, hangings, plate, apparel, jewels and utensils owned and used by himself and his Countess. As such it is the only known record of the whole range of a 16th century magnate's moveable possessions.
