Copper Plate Map of London

Acquisition at auction of an engraved copper plate for a map of the City of London, circa 1560. The Museum of London already owned the copper plate of Moorfields, the adjoining area to the north. On the reverse of the plate is an oil painting that has been attributed to the circle of Frans Francken (circa 1620). The practice by artists of using disused plates was quite common in the 17th century.
