Chatelherault Deer Park

Acquisition of 138-acre deer park associated with a grand hunting lodge, named Chatelherault, built in 1730 to the design of William Adam for the 5th Duke of Hamilton. Hamilton Palace is now demolished, but Historic Scotland acquired ownership of the major part of the historic landscape through an AIL arrangement. The associated deer park went into other ownership, but in 1983 there was an opportunity to bring it into public ownership. The (then) Hamilton District Council acquired the park with NHMF assistance so that its historic features could be restored, and the whole devoted to a public park.
