Brunel Papers

Acquisition of papers of Isambard Kingdom Brunel (IKB) and his family, purchased from the family, which complement the original Collection given to the University in 1950. Includes personal diaries of IKB and family correspondence. Major projects covered include the Thames Tunnel, the Great Western Railway, the SS Great Britain ship and the atmospheric railway. There are notebooks and sketchbooks by IKB giving his preliminary thoughts on these projects, and a collection of letters to IKB from many correspondents over the course of his career, including Robert Stephenson, William Armstrong and Daniel Guppy.
