Blar-nam-Faoileag, Caithness

Acquisition of rights over 5,562 acres of wild blanket peat bog in Caithness, one of Europe's few remaining living peat bogs, beneath which the peat lies up to 20 feet thick. The land was in the possession of Lord Thurso, who was effectively being paid for not selling the peat and cultivating the land beneath.
