Acquisition of George Seurat's painting, 'Bateau près de la berge à Asnières', a preparatory oil sketch for his first major work 'Bathers at Asnieres' (National Gallery, London). Originally collected by Samuel Courtauld in the 1920s and since then in the family's private collection, it now joins the Courtauld Gallery's public collection of Seurat's studies for his 'Bathers'.
