Balfour Ciborium

The Balfour Ciborium, circa 1150-1175, decorated in champleve enamel on copper. It is traditionally supposed to have been given by Mary Queen of Scots to her supporter, Sir James Balfour of Pittendreich, who died in 1583. The ciborium has been on loan to the V and A since 1924.
