Augustus John Papers

Acquisition of the main archive of papers of Augustus John (1878-1961), NLD MSS 22775-97. The archive was purchased by the National Library and Archive / Archive from Sotheby's, London, in June 1988. This group of papers consisted mainly of correspondence, together with drafts of the artist's autobiographical writings. Further, complementary groups of correspondence and prose drafts were purchased at Sotheby's in April and December 1989 and incorporated into the main archive.
