Ashdown Forest, East Sussex

Acquisition of Ashdown Forest, the largest area of land in the South East which has never been under the plough, and consists of 2,590 hectares of heath and woodland. The forest has its own Act of Parliament which gives management to a board of conservators who are required to manage the forest as an amenity. It was however, in private ownership, and in order to maintain unified management, NHMF assisted East Sussex County Council to acquire the freehold and manorial rights.
