Anglo-Saxon Pennies from Aiskew
Acquisition of three extremely rare 8th century pennies found at Aiskew, near Bedale in North Yorkshire. A treasure trove inquest was held but it was decided the pennies had not been buried but merely lost. Two of the pennies were struck in the name of Offa, the Anglo-Saxon King who ruled Mercia during the period 757-96. Whilst the third penny bears the name of Jaenberht who was Archbishop of Canterbury from 765-92.
