The British Library have acquired the ealiest surviving Western book, St Cuthbert's Gospel. The Gospel was written in the late 7th century and originally places in Cuthbert's coffin. It has claim to be one of the most important books in the world.
Created in the 7th century and intimately associated with one of Britain’s foremost saints, the Gospel is the earliest surviving intact European book and one of the world’s most significant books.
