Pontefract Race Cup for 1812

Acquisition of Pontefract Race Cup for 1812. The Pontefract Races were established in about 1800 and were an extension of the social arrangements centred on Doncaster. Made by William Burwash of London, of silver-gilt. 21 and a half inches high with handls and a lid. The trophy was won by Christopher Wilson's cob 'Stamford'.
