Lady Victoria Colliery, Acquisition and Repairs

Acquisition of Lady Victoria Colliery and the conservation village of Newtongrange which together form the largest planned colliery complex in Europe. The Colliery is A-listed, and the last remaining colliery in Scotland. The premises are the freehold property of the Scottish Mining Museum Trust. The museum is designated as the national coal-mining museums for Scotland, caring for and interpreting the collier and the Scottish coal mining collections, which it actively collects and preserves. The museum plays a critical role in interpreting the national mining heritage; this is especially important now that most mining towns and villages have lost any remaining visible presence of the industry on which their communities were founded.
