HMS Caroline, one of the most historically significant war ships in the world whose future was threatened through deterioration and neglect is to be secured thanks to a £1million from the National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF).
HMS Caroline The Last Survivor
The Royal Navy Museum sought funding for emergency safeguarding works to HMS Caroline, the last surviving vessel from the Battle of Jutland. Costs are for emergency works to bring the ship into a stable state and halt deterioration whilst plans for its future are being developed.
Today, NHMF announced a pledge of £1million that will help secure HMS Caroline for the nation after months of uncertainty around its future. It is the last surviving large warship from the British First World War fleet still afloat.
